In the face of these developments, the nationwide law enforcement agencies are also confronted with new challenges; investigations are sometimes no longer possible at all without technology-supported or automated procedures. The new Ladenburg Discourse pursues several objectives: Innovative procedures for the use of personal data are to be developed and the associated functional, legal, ethical and sociological requirements and limits explored.
If the work of the authorities becomes more effective through the implementation of intelligent and automated investigation methods, the potential of personal data can be utilized in the best possible way for law enforcement agencies. In doing so, it is essential to further develop existing methods while maintaining ethical standards or to create completely new procedures that take fundamental rights into account. In addition, practical implementation options on the part of the investigating authorities as well as technical and functional requirements and limitations of the procedure itself must be taken into account. The participants in the Ladenburg Discourse will try to find appropriate solutions - even if there are inevitably tensions due to the different interests of the players involved.
