Background of the project

The DeTox research project is concerned with the automatic detection of toxicity and aggression in postings and comments on the Internet. Motto: Hate is poison!

Together with the Hessen3C Hate Comment Reporting Office, automatic detection and classification procedures for “fake news” and “hate speech” are to be developed.

It is not only important to recognize and classify posts as “hate speech”, but also how something is recognized, reported and evaluated. The question of toxicity and aggressiveness is of great importance for preventive measures.

Another important point is the explainability of the classification results, as these must be justifiable, especially in relation to “fake news” and “hate speech”.

The goal of a novel and sustainable strategy for the automated detection of toxicity and aggression in online postings and comments can only be achieved by a combination of science and users.
